Growing Mushrooms at Home

Taught by Tristan Woodsmith: This workshop focuses on growing gourmet mushrooms at home, both indoors and outdoors in your yard, garden or forest. We will discuss the mushroom life cycle, various substrates used for growing mushrooms, and low-tech methods for generating mycelium including spores, spawn, and stem-butts. Indoor mushroom patches, outdoor mushroom beds, log and stump cultivation will all be covered in great detail. Species mentioned include Oyster Mushrooms, Shiitake, Lion's Mane and more! Each student will create their own mushroom patch to observe, propagate and expand at home.
